Queenstown Winter Wedding
The Seasons of Queenstown

← back to all love stories

Queenstown is a four season wedding destination located in the South Island of New Zealand. Each season brings something new and exciting. Whether you prefer sunshine and fresh blooms or snowy peaks and a bit of apreski for your guests, Queenstown has you covered! As a Queenstown wedding photographer the variety of the four seasons offers unique photo opportunities. This allows each couple to have personalized photos of their special day.  I recommend selecting a wedding date based on the style and atmosphere you wish to have on your wedding day. I’m here to help you make the big decision by sharing a few ideas and images for each of the four seasons of Queenstown.

Summer: December – February

I love summer weddings in Queenstown! The days are long and the sun shines bright on our couples for their wedding photographs. In the summertime I recommend photos on the lakeside beaches, outside around your ceremony and reception venue, and on the mountaintop looking down to glistening Lake Wakatipu. Summer is a wonderful time to get married in Queenstown. Your guests will have the luxury of choosing between many outdoor activities during their stay. From day hikes around Queenstown to paddle boarding on the lake the options are endless!

Autumn: March – May

Dream of saying your wedding vows surrounded by golden foliage? If so, an Autumn wedding in Queenstown is your ticket! Weddings that fall within the Autumn season in Queenstown are magical. The surrounding landscape turns a lovely rainbow of burnt orange, deep red, and gold as the leaves begin to fall and the winter season approaches. Be sure to arrange wedding portraits in Arrowtown for your Autumn wedding. Arrowtown is a small village just 15 minutes away from downtown Queenstown. It is a traveller favorite all year long, but specifically in the Autumn. This town is one of the best places in all of New Zealand to see the golden Autumn colours.

Winter:  June – August

Everyone loves winter in Queenstown! Town is buzzing with guests visiting to ski and snowboard and the restaurants keep a roaring fire going at all times. I especially love the Winter season in Queenstown as the mountains are topped in snow and there is a sense of excitement around town. Many of my couples who get married during the Winter season choose to take a helicopter ride to the mountain top for snowy wedding portraits to remember their special day. Be sure to pack an extra warm coat and booties to stay warm!

Spring:  September – November

As the snow begins to melt away and the ground thaws, Spring flowers pop up and the grass turns green and lush. Springtime is a lovely time to get married in Queenstown. Couples can have photos taken in green pastures or on the mountain top, which may have snow. Spring is all about getting the best of both worlds! The Spring season sees longer days and warmer weather. I recommend planning plenty of time for photos outside amongst the beautiful Queenstown scenery. And when the sun sets, it’s time to dance into the night with your guests.

Each season offers unique opportunities and landscapes in Queenstown. Whether you prefer bundling up and tramping through the snow or basking in the summer sunshine, Queenstown has you covered for the ultimate wedding day!
